Eating at some of my favorite places

May 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The President and First Lady went to Citronelle in Georgetown last weekend.  It’s been a year or so since we’ve been there.  Might be time to go again.

Obama and Biden went to Ray’s Hell Burger in Arlington last Monday. Ray’s is not a “burger joint,” as in the news reports. It’s kind of foofy. You can get foie gras on a burger.  But as an eating experience it’s really transcendent, the fulfillment of the steakhouse burger only not in a steakhouse. 10 ounces, cooked to the “warm red center” temperature.

“The Land Before Peeps”

March 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Several years ago, the Washington Post started its annual Peeps contest around Easter, asking for people to construct dioramas using marshmallow Peeps. The Post judges the entries; the winners appear in the paper and are awarded prizes. My wife and her sister have entered the past few years.

Several papers around the country had started similar contests before the Post launched its version.

Although the entries closed last Sunday, March 15, my nephew Rory (who turned six last month) finished a diorama called The Land Before Peeps. His Mom has indicated that he would enjoy seeing the pictures online.
