Early 1900s color photography of Russian Empire scenes

The Denver Post site carried this great collection last fall. Here is the Library of Congress page for the collection of photographs by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii.

  1. Very impressive gallery of color photos. I thought the colors in some of the images might have been out of alignment due to the primitive nature of color photography at the time, but after seeing some of the color photographs taken with the Autochrome process by the Lumiere brothers during the first World War, I am not sure. Of course, it seems that all of the color photos were of relatively still subjects (as opposed to action shots). Anyone care to comment or compare this collection with other collections of early color shots?
